Restoration of the Edgartown Lighthouse
In 2007, the Martha's Vineyard Museum received funds from the town of Edgartown through the Community Preservation Act, for the much needed restoration of the Edgartown Lighthouse. The Museum has been caretaker of the lighthouse along with East Chop and Gay Head, since 1993. The renovations to the cast-iron stucture involve detailed structural and cosmetic updates, including replacing boarded up windows with glass panes and installing a spiral staircase to the top of the light. These improvements will allow the Museum to open the interior of the lighthouse to the public for the first time.
